Before using tractor today using the warranty parts I received I changed out the lower transmission G-Rotor filter/screen, the number 1 and 6 transmission relays and the go pedal. I reused the hydraulic oil along with some new oil as Jim advised to get back to the extra 3 gallon level. I had to remove and reinstall the new suction line that had been installed during hydraulic system upgrade from the side of the transmission in order to get the filter out. Total time was approx 4 hours.
I found some sludge and orange paint flakes on the screen and I found the main transmission drain loose (hand tight) leaking oil. The Tractor was only run a short time late in the day today so I will run it an extended time tomorrow and then recalibrate the transmission when it’s hot as Jim advised.

He told me that if happens again I might be able to free it up by pressing or tapping a drift pin or Phillips screwdriver in the center of the ends of the valve. He also told me the valve is only guaranteed for a year ours is stamped 10/13. The valve did not stick today.

I talked to a Long bucket tech and he told me that the 3rd function valve block used #4 o-rings on all four #4 boss plugs with no torque specs just tighten them. I spoke to Nate and asked what was happening with regards to getting the tractor repaired/fixed, as I hadn’t heard from anyone in quite awhile. He told me that he had no information for me or what the next steps would be. He said John wasn’t in and would not be in until next week. I told him that with the almost daily 2059 and other stop codes something was wrong never mind the many other problems. I asked if Adam was back to work and if He had done anything on the ASIST from the last visit. He said Adam was back and he would check with him and get back to me. I told him I had heard that before and that on numerous occasions I didn’t receive a return call or answers from my many voice mails to him or John. I told him that it was ridiculous that seven months had gone by and the tractor was still not fixed and that it was time for us to pursue other avenues to get this resolved as one year was quickly approaching. He told me he would get back to me. Nate called back later in the day and said John had all the information on our tractor. He asked that I wait for John to return before doing anything else. He said John would be in Monday or Tuesday and would contact me then. I agreed.

Tractor was used for spreading and loader work with bucket and forks for moving jumps.
The Pto started with a very long delay between when the dash light came on and it actually started spinning. it was used late in the day after tractor had run quite a while.
There were both minor delays and some long delays while shuttling the transmission. Both the surging/jerking motion of the transmission and the squealing noise happened numerous times today when hooking up and disconnecting the spreader, the forks and bucket also when approaching jumps with forks to move them.
There was one 2059 code today at the end of the day when I started the tractor to put it away along with quite a bit of squealing. There were also at least two other instances of a different stop warning “No Number” during the day it had a trans symbol a slash and then what looked like a steering wheel. This one flashed quickly and then went away without me restarting and I didn’t notice any code number or could read the writing.
The power steering made the cavitation gurgling noise and there was intermittent loss of steering usually when starting out from a stop either forward or reverse with no throttle preset.
There was no noticeable chattering of the loader or the rear hydraulics today but the loader was only lifted approx 4′ moving jumps and the rear hydraulics were not used.
I do not know why the problems are here again today and were not happening yesterday. Other than the tractor was run much longer and I did not always preset the throttle today. I used the pedal to increase the rpm/ground speed when moving, only sometimes preset at 1800 and when spreading 2500. The tractor idled a lot at each jump as we had to clean each jump area up before moving it. Yesterday I believe when using the loader we preset the throttle at 2200 rpm and when using the loader like that I usually set it at approx 1800 rpm. When I first started using the tractor in the morning it worked ok and degraded the longer it was used.
6/17/14 306.7 hours Tractor use/problems/warranty/phone conversations
Tractor was used for loader work and grooming a ring during warranty visit by Adam.
The PTO started with no problems
There were some minor delays while shuttling the transmission forward/reverse but none of the long ones that usually occur. The surging/jerking motion of the transmission occurred while hooking up the groomer along with transmission noises. The squealing noise occurred while disconnecting the groomer.
There were no stop codes while Adam was here but he was able to retrieve and clear the previous 2059 and 2054 codes from the cpu. Shortly after he left two 2059 codes occurred. Both happened one after the other when starting and moving the tractor to put it away after Adam left.
The power steering made the cavitation gurgling noise but there was no complete loss of steering during the visit.
There was no chattering of the loader or the rear hydraulics during the visit.
Adam said that all pressure readings were within specs during the different tests. That he thinks that because I was having intermittent problems with the two separate hydraulic circuits that most of the problems point to the pickup in the sump possibly blocking intermittently, but he would put all the info together and send it in as an ASIST and see what comes back from NH. He told me to contact him directly with any additional problems that arise.
John called me later in the day. We discussed what should be done and decided the best thing was to run it as it has a 5 year 2000 hour warranty and to wait and see if the ASIST or Adams class in PA next month comes up with anything. I asked him to let Adam know about the new two stop codes.

There were two Stop trouble codes that required shutting down the tractor to reset the tractor. The second one (2059) I got a picture of. Looking quickly the first one might have been (2059) also but I’m not sure as I had to restart quickly because of what I was doing. This may have been the same Stop warning that I got 3 times on 6/6/14 but I didn’t notice the code then. Could this shuttle switch be the cause of all the intermittent shuttling delays/problems?
( [2059] 1) Switch inputs indicate shuttle lever is in both forward and neutral 2) Switch inputs indicate shuttle lever is in both reverse and neutral 3) Switch inputs indicate
shuttle lever is in both forward and reverse. Cycle the shuttle lever which may free up stuck switches, or try driving the opposite direction.)
The power steering made the cavitation/gurgling noise and there was intermittent loss of steering at lower rpms sometimes complete loss of steering. The steering problems got worse the longer the tractor was run.

The tractor while moving forward and turning from a start at low rpms (idle approx 900 rpm) flashed the red stop light/with warning tone 3 times today and the steering completely stopping. Then when backing off go pedal and letting go steering wheel all cleared and tractor moved ok. This is new. Possible idle speed set to low?
The loader chattered today while lifting a load as if it was low on hydraulic oil at approx 1800 rpm, this is new. Checked hydraulic oil and it was full a little above new full mark.
The new problems happened after the tractor had been operated quite a while. I think at least one of the new problems (Loader chatter) point to foaming/aerated hydraulic oil and possibly some/all of the others.

The Transmission shuttled from forward to reverse with no apparent delays.
The Power Steering had no cavitation/gurgling noises and worked with no apparent stalling (loss of steering).
I spoke to John after running tractor for approx 1 hour spreading and some loader work with the bucket. I thanked him and told him that the tractor was working great with no problems for the first time since I received it last fall. I asked and he explained that they had found that a secondary relief valve on the steering box (orbital Motor?) had been found stuck open which they replaced/repaired. I told him about the mirror and he said he would have one sent down from parts. I asked that they send down the copies of what had been done to the tractor on each of the last two warranty visits and he said he would have Nate take care of it.
I used the tractor for moving logs for over an hour after that during which everything appeared to be working fine. Some of the logs were rather heavy and the steering still worked fine.

John contacted me and said that after running the tractor a while they had found and repaired a problem with the steering. That the steering hydraulic system powered the PTO activating circuit, so this should take care of the PTO delay issue also. He said that they had checked and reset the transmission settings. The tractor seems to be working fine now and would be returning it tomorrow.

I spoke to John he said that NH would not help with any more shipping or loaners and the most he thought he could get them to assist in a trade was a couple of thousand dollars but wasn’t sure yet. He said the tractor had to come in for the tests that NH want him to do. He offered to pay half the shipping. I agreed and asked if he had anything he could send as a loaner while the tractor was there as it usually was there for two weeks when it goes in and this was our busiest time of the year. He said he planned on turning tractor around in a couple of days and he would look into sending a loaner. We agreed that Monday would be best time to send it back in.

I called the Dealership and I spoke to John today as Nate was going on vacation. He said that we had to make arrangements to get the tractor back to the dealership, coming to the farm would not work because if the tractor needed repairs or additional tests after the first tests required by the ASIST. I reminded him the tractor had to be worked hard for approx 1 hour before the problems/foam/bubbles really got bad. I told him this was the busiest time of the year for us and we needed a tractor with a QA loader/bucket this size, so if it were sent back I needed a loaner with a QA loader/bucket. I reminded him that I had already paid over $1000 in shipping to get the same problems taken care of when it was sent back the last two times and that each time it was there for at least 2 weeks. I asked if he could contact NH to see if they would take care of shipping and a loaner or if they would be willing to help with the cost of trading this one for a work master 55 to minimize our loss on the trade. He said he would speak to NH to see if he could get the loaner and shipping taken care of or if they would help with trading and get back to me tomorrow morning.

I spoke to Nate he said he had received an email back on the ASIST. That he was going to speak to John about sending Adam down to do tests on the power steering and other problems. I reminded him that the tractor needed to be worked hard approx an hour before it started to really act up and that everything except power steering works fine for the first 5 to 15 minutes. Then as more foam shows up on the dip stick the worse all the problems get. I asked for a copy of the email and he said NH told him he could not release to me any more written info on the tractor problems he gets from them. Sounds like NH is getting ready to walk away from the problems if they don’t want to give or show me info on how they plan on fixing it.

The tractor was used for spreading and loader work today at 1500 to 2500 rpm.
The PTO worked ok with no delay but the pto was used in the first 10 minutes of operation.
There were intermittent long delays again while shuttling the transmission along with a shuddering/jerking motion when it finally engages. When the tractor is first started it appears to operate ok but, the longer it is run the more intense and frequent issues it has. The tractor transmission locked up again while pushing up the pit in 2 wheel drive and the only way to release it was to use the the curling action of the bucket, it released with a cracking noise in reverse. There was also a cracking/snapping noise along with a jerking /surging motion while backing in 2 wheel drive on pavement again today. I did not check the transmission dip stick but assume it would show bubbles/foam as this appears each time the tractor is run and after running awhile.
The power steering made the usual gurgling cavitation noise with intermittent loss of power steering (stalling) and it gets worse the longer tractor is run.

I talked to Nate he said he had received an answer to the ASIST. I asked if he would send a copy so I could respond to it. He sent the copy late in the day. I plan on reading/responding to it tonight.
I am starting to believe that all the problems are related to the foaming/bubbles in the hydraulic oil. The longer the tractor is run the larger the bubbles/foam on the dipstick and the problems seem to appear and increase in intensity the longer the tractor is run. If I shut down and let the tractor rest the problems go away for a brief time.

I called Nate to find out what was going on. He said he hadn’t heard anything back from the service reps but would check his email and get back to me if there was info on the ASIST. I asked if he would wait a week and a half to try and get the information from ASIST or NH if the tractor was in the shop. I told him we felt as we were being written off by NH. I also asked again if he had gotten the info on the 4 in 1 bucket and 3rd function valve. He said he would and send it to me. He told me in an email that the 4 in 1 bucket and 3rd function valve were from Long the bucket manufacturer. I once again asked for the paperwork/invoice on the last warranty work, he said he was still working on it.
I contacted Long direct and explained about the bucket opening while back dragging/smoothing. I also told them about the hydraulic oil aeration (Bubbles/Foam) in case that was causing the problem. They instructed me to do some tests over the weekend to narrow down whether it was the valve or bucket piston packing causing the problems. I told them I would do the test and would contact them with results Monday morning. They also queried me on why I was calling with the problem and not the dealer. I started Test on bucket closing for tomorrow.

Tractor was used for Sweeping, Spreading and loader/grapple/forks work
There was once again one problem with the PTO not starting but by cycling the switch rapidly, repeatedly it started with no further problems other than intermittent delays starting to spin.
The power steering completely failed today (No power assist at all) while using the QA forks to move equipment on and off the storage racks in 2 wheel drive at 1500 to 3000 rpm on a concrete floor two different times today. Once early in the day approx 15 minutes after starting the tractor and late in the day after it had been used. There were many small bubbles on the transmission dip stick right after it failed each time. Probably sucking air from somewhere. These were loads the old 45DA handled with no problems. With no load on the loader it continued to work with the cavitation/gurgling noise with intermittent stalling of the steering.
The clunking/clanking noise while backing happened again, along with intermittent long delays shuttling the transmission. I might be noticing this more now as the rear window has been open while working.
I spoke to Nate told him what was happening and asked what could be done, that it was totally ridiculous that this had been going on for 6 months with 6 weeks there for warranty work and still not working right. He said he was shipping the switch to me today for the PTO and would email the Service Rep and ask him to call me direct hopefully by the end of the day to discuss the problems. Tractor was used for spreading.
The PTO was turned on and off 3 times with no problems.
No problems with shifting today but the tractor was not used much.
The power steering was fine today but the tractor only ran a very short time. Maybe a loose line/clamp on the suction side is letting in air after the tractor heats up?
The tractor was serviced today. We found coolant hose clamps loose, both pressure and return hydraulic lines loose on the power steering pump and transmission.
3/22/14 166.8 hours Tractor Operation
Tractor was used for spreading and loader work.
The PTO was turned on and off numerous times in the rear field with no problems again.
The Loader was used for quite awhile loading out of the manure pit again. Again there were no problems shifting from forward to reverse other than the transmission locking up once and the only way I got it to release was to lift the front wheels off the ground and shift forward to reverse and so it would free up.
The power steering again was fine until after approx one hour of usage when the gurgling/cavitation started to get more and more noticeable. Again the steering started to intermittently stall even though the rpm was over 1500 rpm.

The tractor was used only a short time for spreading and Loader work today.
The PTO was turned on and off 3 times today without any delay or lockup in the rear field.
The loader was used for pushing up in the pit with no problems. I tried to recreate the transmission lockup in 4×4 and 2 wheel drive running at 1500, 2000 and 2500 rpm as Mike had asked, but couldn’t. The tractor was only run for approx 1/2 hour.
The power steering had no noticeable gurgling/cavitation noise or stalling.
I was able to fix the hydraulic leaks on the right side by tightening all the QA connections for the loader.
Overall the tractor ran flawlessly today but was only run a short time, it only appears to have problems when run for extended times.
Talked to Nate and Mike early today about yesterdays tractor operation and tires for the front of the 6640.
3/19/14 154.8 hours Tractor Operation/Problems
The tractor was used for spreading and Loader work today.
The PTO was turned on and off 4 times today without any delay or lockup in the rear field. This was after approx 3.5 hours of loader work.
The tractor was used for loading manure from the pit to a spreader for approx 3.5 hours today. The transmission locked up while going into the pile 3 different times today but not until after the tractor had been running quite awhile. Each time it wouldn’t unlock until I lifted the front wheels off the ground with the loader and cycled forward to reverse. This might be the protection mode the Rep told me about but the Loaner never did this. Otherwise the tractor shifted fine today with no delays in shifting and no sticking in forward.
The power steering is still making the gurgling/cavitation noise at 1500 rpm and it gets more obvious the longer it is run. The power steering stalled a couple of times but not until the tractor had been running/working over 2 hours.
There was no vacuum or pressure on the transmission after it was shut down for the day. I’m going to run it again tomorrow doing the same things before I call Nate.

Spoke to Nate and Mike they both said they were comfortable in the way it was working, but it was only being tested in the parking lot and on the road. I told them that we really wouldn’t know until I could use it for longer periods of time and in the fields. They agreed and Nate said he would ship it back in the morning. He said he would send paperwork as soon as it was done.

I tried to call Nate in morning but got answering machine and then talked to Mike. Mike said he had tried it and everything seemed to be working fine with it.
I spoke to Nate later in the day and he said that both Adam and Mike had been trying it and everything seemed ok. We discussed it and decided to ship the tractor back Monday morning depending on weather. I told him if they thought everything was ok then there was no need for me to head up to try it in the controlled environment of there shop and parking area as I would get the same results. We agreed that I needed to try it in my fields and for longer periods of time as that is when it acted up before. I told him I would contact him early Monday and let him know weather conditions with approaching snow storm.

Spoke to Mike he said service rep had him order numerous parts for ours, cpu, steering box, etc. they would know more on Monday when it would be ready.
3/6/14 4.6 hours (Loaner) Trip to dealer to meet with Factory Rep, Loaner use
The Loaner was used for spreading only.
The PTO turned right on with no delay and no lockup 3 times in rear field. I then tried turning it on and off numerous times (more than 15) while returning to the front field. It did not lockup and it started immediately each time unlike ours.
The power steering worked fine with no problems leaving the lower barn with no increase to the rpm other than the go pedal, unlike ours. Upon return to the shop there was a slight gurgling noise so after shutting down I checked for pressure in the transmission and found some upon removing the fill cap.
I need to groom rings, spreading and loader work tomorrow so this should run the tractor longer and give me a better feel for it in comparison to ours.
I went to the dealership (3 hour ride each way) and met the Field Rep. We talked at length about the problems with the tractor and showed him a copy of the current tractor problems and asked if he had read the log. He said he had read some of it. He told me he had found nothing wrong with the tractor that everything was within specs. Which I figured would happen in the controlled environment. I told him most of the problems happen intermittently and usually appear while bouncing around in the rear fields not in the shop as I had run into this myself trying to recreate some of the issues. I told him the transmission problems usually appear after running the tractor awhile I estimated at least 3 hours. I asked him about the blank screens and the cruise control screen locked on the dash until I restarted, he said they needed to check for bad grounds I reminded him that the dealership and I had already checked them. We talked about the problems with the pto and how the one time I had used the loaner yesterday it did not have the same problems coming right on. We also discussed the tractor staying in forward that I was concerned that this was a safety problem, he said he had not been able to recreate it. We discussed the transmission lockup in the pit and he explained how that could have been the the tractor trying to protect itself. We discussed the bad ground on the battery terminal I found at around 15 hours but he wasn’t that concerned with that even though in the past I have had problems with bad grounds destroying/partially damaging CPUs in vehicles. We discussed the power steering problem and his recommendation that over filling the hydraulic fluid a little might take care of that problem. We also discussed the Deluxe transmission and some of the options and his advice on some of the settings. I also told him that during ice and snow conditions the tractor had rear chains on it and was in 4 wheel drive. He thought that some of the problem might be related to that. I don’t think that any wind up would cause the tractor to continue in forward that much/far and one of the times it stuck in forward it did not have chains on. I asked if I would be any more help if I stayed there he said no so I returned so as to miss traffic in Boston. I told him to call if he had any questions. I heard nothing so I plan on calling the dealership in the morning.
3/5/14 144.2 hours (ours) Loaner 4.2 hours Tractor shipped Phone conversations
The tractor was shipped to dealer today. A loaner tractor a 3050cvt was brought here. I used the the loaner tractor for spreading and pushing up in pit. Tractor does not have loaded tires and is very bouncy.
The pto worked ok it turned right on with no delays each time. I was able to make it do a 5080 lock but only after turning it on and off with no delays 15 times quickly while returning from the rear field. I will check the dash screen to see if the error code comes up when it is started. “Checked” “no code displays on dash when starting or after running so this one doesn’t follow Operators Manual on ADIC Fault Codes either”.
I did not use the loader long enough to be able to compare the forward to reverse and reverse to forward shifting.
The power steering was not sluggish at all and no noticeable gurgling or power steering noise at all.
I talked to Nate about some of the problems and the list I had put together. I told him I was willing to come up if they thought it would help. He said he would let me know in the morning.
3/4/14 144.2 hours Tractor Operation/Problems
The tractor was used for spreading today and some quick loader work in the pit.
I spread a long run again today starting the pto with the replacement switch twice in the rear field. It started with a long delay between the dash light and the pto starting to spin again approx 6 seconds. When I tried turning the pto on and off for the 2nd time it did a 5080 lock. I restarted and finished the 2nd run. Then as I returned to the barn I turned it on 5 times in approx 3 to 4 minutes some under a ten second wait before restarting the pto most times it came on with a delay. It did a 5080 lockup on the sixth try.
I used the loader in the pit for a short time and there was no noticeable problem.
Once again the power steering acted sluggish after disconnecting the spreader and leaving the lower barn.
Talked to Nate and he told me the schedule had been moved up and the tractor was to be picked up tomorrow instead of Thursday as the Field Rep would be there Thursday now. I told him that would be fine. He asked if I could come up and I told him to let me know when and I would be there.
3/3/14 143.7 hours Tractor Operation/Problems
The tractor was used for spreading and snow removal loader work.
I spread a long run again today starting the pto with the replacement switch only once in the rear field. It started with a long delay between the dash light and the pto starting to spin. I tried turning the pto on and off as I returned to the barn. It turned on 6 times in approx 3 to 4 minutes some under a ten second wait before restarting most times it came on with a delay. It did a 5080 lockup on the seventh try.
The tractor/loader was also used to scrape snow off the driveway and pushup manure in the pit. There was quite a few long delays shifting from reverse to forward and some from forward to reverse.
The power steering acted sluggish again after disconnecting the spreader and leaving the lower barn.
3/2/14 142.8 hours Tractor Operation/Problems
The tractor was used for spreading and a little loader work.
I spread a long run today starting the pto only once in the rear field. It started with an approx. 4 sec delay between the dash light and the pto starting to spin. I tried turning the pto on and off as I returned to the barn. It turned on 9 times in approx 3 to 4 minutes some under a ten second wait before restarting most times it came on with a delay. It did a 5080 lockup on the tenth try.
The tractor was used for a very short time with forward and reverse using the loader. One delay was observed while shifting from forward to reverse.
The power steering once again acted sluggish the gurgling noise was loud again as I left the lower barn turning to the left the rpms were approx. 1800.

3/1/14 142.2 hours Tractor Operation/Problems
Tractor was used for spreading and a little loader work.
The tractor was used for spreading short runs on a hillside today. The first time I turned it on with the replacement switch the dash light came on but the pto started after an approx 3 to 5 second delay. The pto ran for about 30 seconds and I shut it down for at least 30 seconds before trying to restart it. It did a 5080 lock. I shut down the tractor and restarted to clear the lockup. After bringing it back up to speed I was able to turn the pto on and off at least 10 times without a problem other than the intermittent delay in starting to spin, sometimes longer delays than others.
There was no noticeable problem with the transmission while using the loader but it was only used with the loader in the manure pit for a very short time.
I left the lower barn after spreading returning to the shop. I set the idle at 1500 rpm and as I was leaving turning to the left the power steering stalled momentarily and the gurgling noise was real noticeable. This hasn’t happened in awhile. The only thing that I can think of that was different is it was idling at around a 1000rpm for about 10 minutes before I left the lower barn to put it away.
2/28/14 141.1 hours Tractor Operation/Problems
Tractor was used for spreading and some quick loader work.
I tried the pto in the shop after warming it up again with the replacement switch. It turned on 5 times with no problems except that there was a delay sometimes between when the light came on and when it’s starts spinning. I hooked up and went to the rear field where I am still spreading short runs on a hillside. It turned on at least five times in the field with no problem except intermittent delays in starting after the light came on but sometimes it would turn on right away. While returning I once again turned it on and off at least 6 times with varying time delays, one time it did not come on at all and I had to cycle the switch to get it to come on. On the seventh try it did a 5080 lock.
There was no noticeable problem with the transmission while using the loader but it was only used with the loader in the manure pit for a very short time while pushing up.
There was no no noticeable problems with the power steering other than the gurgling noise.
2/27/14 140.6 hours Tractor Operation/Problems and phone conversations
Tractor was used for spreading and some loader work.
I tried the PTO in the shop after warm up and before spreading. Using the replacement switch it turned on and off with no problems at least 10 times???? I went to the lower barn hooked up the spreader and went to the rear field where I was still spreading short runs on a hill side. It started with a slight delay between when the pto light came on and when the pto started spinning. The first time I went to turn the pto off and on again it did a 5080 lock. I restarted the tractor and and when it came up to speed I tried to turn on the pto again, this time it would not turn on. I cycled the switch and it turned on but with a delay again. I turned the switch on and off 4 more times in the rear field for spreading, sometimes it came on with a delay others it came right on. I tried turning it on and off the entire trip back to the barn maybe 8 to 10 times in about a 4 minute time period. Some of the cycles I did in under 10 seconds. The only problem I had was an intermittent delay in the pto starting. One time as long as approx 5 seconds, others around 1 to 2 seconds, while others it came right on. When I returned to the shop I tried it again this time about 15 times in a row with no problems other than the intermittent delay. There is no explanation for this especially after what happened yesterday!!!!!
There was no noticeable problem with the transmission while using the loader but it was only used with the loader for a very short time while pushing up the manure pit.
There was no no noticeable problems with the power steering other than the gurgling noise still but it wasn’t run very long.
I talked to Nate and told him what was going on. He told me the same as Alex from NH, that the tractor would be picked up on 3/6 as the field rep was going to be there 3/7 and that NH was paying for the shipping and loaner.

Tractor was used for spreading and some loader work.
While spreading short runs in the rear field using the replacement switch the pto would not turn on the first time I cycled the switch and it worked, then when I tried restarting the pto it did a 5080 lockup. I restarted the tractor and the 3.0 screen came on the dash and never went away (see picture below) then the pto started with a delay. I tried to restart the pto again and it again did a 5080 lockup. This time when I tried to restart the tractor to reset the computer I had a blank screen on the dash for approx 5 seconds before it lit up and let me restart the tractor. The pto light did not come on the first time so I cycled the switch and it started the pto with a delay. I once again tried restarting the pto and got a 5080 lock. I shut down the tractor and hooked up the test toggle switch and restarted. When turning on the pto I got no dash indicator light until I cycled the switch then the pto would come on. This happened numerous times with the test toggle switch but no 5080 lockup. When I returned to the shop I tried both replacement switch and the test toggle switch and was able to turn the pto on and off numerous times without a problem with both?????? What is the Difference???? Why yesterday only very few problems today nothing but problems. Could it be weather, temperature etc??? Why when in shop (controlled environment) does everything seem to work ok with only minor problems.
There was no noticeable problem with the transmission while using the loader but it was only used with the loader for a very short time.
There was no no noticeable problems with the power steering other than the gurgling noise.
Alex from NH 800 called and let me know that it was set for Field Rep on 3/7 at the dealer and picking up tractor on 3/6 and that NH was going to cover transport and loaner costs.

Tractor was used for spreading and some loader work
I connected the replacement pto switch. It turned the pto on for spreading in the rear field. While returning I tried to turn it on and off while returning. It turned the pto on 6 times before it would not turn on the dash pto light on the 7th attempt. I tried cycling the switch but the tractor went into 5080 lock. I shut down and restarted tractor to reset the cpu. On the first attempt the pto light would not come on but I was able to cycle the switch and get it to come on. The pto started with no problems 6 more times. when I returned to the shop I reconnected the test toggle switch and it worked fine also at least 8 times in a row??? I will test again tomorrow with the replacement switch.
I Used the loader only a very short time today in the pit and there were no noticeable problems.
There were no noticeable problems with the power steering today.
Nate called and told me the tentative date for the tractor to return is 3/6 barring weather problems. He said they would be sending a loaner down and hoped the tractor would only be up there a few days. I told him of the latest incidents with the tractor and that the replacement switch had arrived last night and I would connect it tomorrow. I told Nate I would let him know the results after a few days.
2/24/14 138.4 hours Tractor Operation/Problems
Tractor was used for spreading and some loader work
The PTO didn’t start when first turned on for spreading in the rear field but by cycling the test toggle switch on and off quickly it turned on the light but with a long delay in starting to spin. While returning from the rear field I tried turning it on and off numerous times. I was able to get it to turn on 7 times without a 5080 code lockup. On the 8th try it locked up. These were done in a 3 to 4 minute period and the on/off/on was done under 30 seconds some were done under 10 seconds. Sometimes the pto light came on immediately others I had to cycle the toggle switch a few times to get it to turn on. Sometimes the pto started to turn immediately others there was a delay in starting to spin. I will try the same thing with the replacement switch that came today next time I use it.
I Used the loader only a very short time today in the pit and there were no noticeable problems.
There were no noticeable problems with the power steering today.
I did not hear from anyone today.

Tractor was used for spreading and some loader work moving snow.
The PTO didn’t start when first turned on for spreading in the rear field but by cycling the test toggle switch on and off quickly it turned on with no 5080 code. It was shut off and turned on with no problems 2 more times. the 3rd time in a row I tried to use the pto it wouldn’t restart, but by cycling the toggle switch quickly it turned on. There were no 5080 codes while using the PTO.
There were some long delays while shifting forward to reverse and reverse to forward but once again they were intermittent.
There were no Power steering problems other than than the gurgling noise after running the tractor a while.

2/21/14 Phone Conversations
Alex from NH 800 called we discussed what was going on and told me that they were trying to quicken things along. I asked that he apologize to Hannah again for me for my ranting yesterday. He said he would. He said he would contact me next week.
I talked to Mike he said he hadn’t been in contact with his sales rep yet and he would be on vacation next week. We discussed about trading and it seems that our best option right now is to repair the tractor as long as I can get a loaner, as I figured by past experience it would be there over at least a week or more, especially with the intermittent problems. He said they were trying to put together a loaner for us. I told him as long as I had something that would do the work ours did then they could keep ours as long as necessary.
I did not talk to Nate today.
2/20/14 Phone Conversations
Tractor was not used today as the snow blower is still hooked up
Talked to Nate there is still no definite date when Field Rep is available or when tractor is going back for warranty work. I once again told him the 3/10 date was to far out unless I had a loaner that I could use with cab loader and at least 1 remote.
I spoke to Mike and told him I was thinking on trading and asked him to figure a price on one without computers. He got back to me later in the day with the prices. We talked at length and it appears right now my best recourse is to repair this tractor as long as they send me a loaner tractor that will work in its place. He said he would call his sale rep and get back to me tomorrow.
Hannah from NH 800 called me to say they were still trying to set something up. I told her I was upset no one had called me back in a week even though I was told I would receive a call last Friday. I told her the 3/10 date I had been given was unacceptable and that this was a safety issue that I would let no one else use the tractor the way it was working. I apologized to her for my ranting to her as I did get upset while talking to her and I know it’s not her fault.
2/19/14 Phone Conversations
Tractor was not used today as the snow blower is still hooked up
Talked to Nate still no further info as to when NH would send Field Rep to dealer or here. Best he could tell me was it was probably set for the week of 3/10. I told him that it was to far out and into my busy period when I needed tractor for setting up and repairing our jump courses. That if I sent it then I wouldn’t see it until the end of month. I asked to have Mike call me as maybe it was time to dump/trade this tractor for something more dependable. He said he would have him call me. I also told him it was time for me to start pressing NH for my money back!!!
I did not hear from Mike.

The PTO didn’t turn on until I cycled the toggle test switch a couple of times the first time I used the pto. It then turned on and off with no further problems. There were no 5080 code lockups, but I’m not using the pto off on as much as when spreading.
While using the loader there were once again intermittent long delays when shifting from reverse to forward and some while shifting from forward to reverse.
I did not hear from Alex NH 800 again today.
2/17/14 Phone conversations
I did not use the tractor today as the snow blower is still hooked up.
Spoke to Nate told him what had happened with transmission delays, Power steering problems and pto temporary toggle test switch use over the weekend. He told me he was trying to get a field rep to our farm before the tractor was shipped back to the dealer for repairs and should know more later in the week. That it probably wouldn’t be until the week of 3/10 that the Field Rep could be at the dealer.
I have not heard from Alex from NH 800 since last Thursday even though he had said he would get back to me on Last Friday on when/if NH was going to get a Field Rep here on the farm.
2/16/14 – 134.8 hours Tractor Operation, PTO/Transmission Problems
The tractor was used with the snow blower and for snow removal loader work .
The PTO turned on sometimes with the toggle test switch though I had to cycle the switch numerous times quickly to get it to turn on other times But there was no 5080 code and at least it turned on with the test toggle switch and I was able to use the snow blower during the storm even though the pto isn’t turning on correctly.
While using the loader there were once again transmission problems with the intermittent delays while shifting forward to reverse and reverse to forward some longer than others. I did not notice it staying in forward today as it has in the past.
The power steering stalled once while turning to the left in snow at around 2000 rpm that I remember. There was some gurgling noise.
2/9/14 – 2/15/14 Phone Calls
16 phone calls this week 5 on 2/10, 3 on 2/11, 2 on 2/12, 1 on 2/13, 5 on 2/14
2/15/14 – 128.8 hours Tractor Operation, PTO/Transmission Problems
The tractor was used for spreading work and loader work
The PTO would not start in the rear field when I went to spread. I had to quickly move the switch up and down numerous times and it finally started. I could only get it to work again by repeating the up down motion numerous times until it would indicate engaged. It acted like a bad switch so I installed the toggle test switch we had made up before. It worked much better but it still did not turn on every time unless I cycled the switch quickly it does work sometimes normally when I turn the switch. Sometimes there is still a delay after the pto indicator light comes on sometimes as long as 10 seconds or more before the shaft starts to turn, other times it comes right on.
There were once again intermittent long delays shifting forward to reverse and reverse to forward while using the loader.
There was no noticeable power steering problems or gurgling noise.
I took the battery in the morning before using the tractor to NAPA to test it as Nate had asked. They tested it with a brand new tester that they were setting up for a local business. It tested ok. I emailed Nate the results.
I connected the snow blower up I hope the PTO works ok as we are getting around 15″ of snow tonight.
With the amount of snow the tractor will be used quite a bit over the next day.
The Anti Freeze was down again about a quart!!! Why?? Where’s it going there are no visible leaks.
2/14/14 – 127.6 hours Tractor Operation, PTO/Loader Problems and Phone Conversations
The tractor was used for a short time for spreading work and some Loader work.
The PTO would not restart it showed no 5080 code and no cpu lock. I had spread in the rear field using the PTO once with only a delayed start. While returning from the rear field I was trying to recreate the 5080 lock from yesterday. When I tried to restart the PTO in the same location as yesterday it would not turn on!!! There was no 5080 code, No computer lock. I even shut down the tractor and restarted still no pto. I tried numerous times still no pto. I continued to try starting the pto the entire time the tractor was in use today no restart. When I returned to the shop I shut it down and checked the manual for fuse location which I pulled and it checked ok this was about 15 minutes shut down. I put it back in restarted tractor and the pto is now working again???? It seems like this might be a bad cpu, when it heats up now it doesn’t work?? A bad switch that works intermittently?? A bad connection somewhere?? or a combination of all. The biggest problem is it’s intermittent and won’t stay broken!!! I don’t know what I did to make it work!! Leaving it off for 15 +/- minutes? Taking the fuse in and out causing the fuse panel/wiring to move?? Wiggling the switch just right?? Combination of all???
I also had long delays going into forward today while using the loader in the manure pit, after the PTO would no longer work.
The power steering seemed to work ok with no noticeable gurgling or steering stalling.
I called Nate and told him what had happened and asked if he could check with his crew if anyone had any ideas as with the big snow storm coming this weekend I needed the pto. He said he would and would call me back. He called back and asked if I could get the battery tested that this might be the problem. I told him I would try and find somewhere I could bring it in the morning for testing and would let him know Monday.
Alex from NH 800 did not call today with update as promised.
2/13/14 – 126.5 hours Tractor Operation, PTO Problems and Phone Conversations
The tractor was again used only a short time today for just spreading work.
The PTO did a 5080 lock today when I tried turning it back on. I had spread in the rear field and was returning to the front approx 3 to 4 minutes when tried to turn it back on it locked the tractor cpu. The bouncing of the tractor causing the switch to send error codes to the computer??? Going by what I’ve been told it should of turned back on at that point with no problem!!!
The power steering appeared to work ok today with no apparent gurgling noise but the tractor did not run long.
The loader was not used so once again the transmission was not shifted forwarded to reverse and reverse to forward many times.
Alex from NH “800” called and told me NH had decided to pay for the round trip shipping to get the tractor straightened out. He said the Field Rep and the dealer were working on a possible loaner and a field rep coming to the farm to check the tractor before shipping. He said he would call on Friday with an update.
2/12/14 – 125.7 hours Tractor Operation, Problems and Phone Conversations
The tractor was used only a short time today for just spreading work.
There was no Problem with the PTO other than an approx 5-10 second delay in starting after the switch was turned on, but again it was only turned on once today.
The power steering appeared to work ok today with no apparent gurgling noise but the tractor did not run long.
The loader was not used so once again the transmission was not shifted forwarded to reverse and reverse to forward many times, but today I had one long delay shifting from reverse to forward.
All the problems except the PTO use are intermittent. The transmission, and power steering problems seem to increase in frequency and duration the longer the tractor is used.
Alex called and told me he had contacted my dealer and the local Field Service Rep and would have more info for me Friday.
Nate called to update me on progress with NH and Field Service Rep. I reminded him of the service invoice which I hadn’t received yet. He sent it. He also told me he had been in contact with Alex and the Field Service Rep Zack.
2/11/14 – 125.2 hours Tractor Operation, Problems and Phone Conversations
The tractor was once again used only a short time today for just spreading work.
There was no Problem with the PTO other than an approx 5-10 second delay in starting after the switch was turned on, but it was only turned on once today.
The power steering appeared to work ok today with no apparent gurgling noise but the tractor did not run long. It seems the only time these problems happen is when the tractor is operated for longer periods.
The loader was once again not used today so the transmission was shifted forward and reverse only a few times with no noticeable problems. It seems that also with the transmission that the only time these problems happen is when the tractor is operated for longer periods.
I spoke to Nate today as i hadn’t received the last invoice for repairs on the tractor. He said it was finished and he would email it to me later in the day. He told me he had heard from Alex and things were progressing.
2/10/14 – 124.9 hours Tractor Operation, Problems and Phone Conversations
The tractor was once again used only a short time today for just spreading work.
There was no Problem with the PTO other than an approx 5-10 second delay in starting after the switch was turned on, but it was only turned on once today.
The power steering stalled again today as I was turning to the left on smooth ice pack leaving the lower barn after spreading. Tractor was set at 1500 rpm. There was no apparent gurgling noise today but the tractor didn’t run long.
The loader was again not used today so the transmission was shifted forward and reverse only a few times with no noticeable problems.
I called the NH 800 number today and talked to Alex. I explained to him the unacceptable problems we were having with the tractor. Including the safety problems. He opened a case (Case # 395496) and said he would contact my dealer and get back to me by Wednesday. I told him I felt that a Field Rep was needed to get it straightened out. I also suggested who ever was involved should read our daily log since we purchased it and the word doc with the current list of problems. He asked that I email the list and give him a link to the log. I told him I would and would await his reply Wednesday.
2/9/14 – 124.3 hours Tractor Operation
The tractor was used only a short time today for just spreading work today.
There was no Problem once again with the PTO other than an approx 10 second delay in starting after the switch was turned on, but it was only turned on once.
There was no noticeable problem with the power steering or the gurgling noise but the tractor was only used a short time.

There was no Problem with the PTO other than an approx 10 second delay in starting after the switch was turned on, but it was only turned on once.
There was no noticeable problem with the power steering but the tractor was only used a short time.
The loader was only used to push up the manure pit today with no problems.
2/7/14 – 122.7 hours Tractor Operation and phone calls
The tractor was used for spreading and Minor Loader work today.
There was no problem with the PTO today other than a delay in starting but once again it was only turned on once.
There was no noticeable problem with the power steering and only a minor gurgling noise today and it was used basically in the same way, path and locations as the day before yesterday???.
The loader was only used to push up the manure pit today with no problems.
I did not hear from Nate today so I tried calling and he had already left for the day. I will follow up Monday morning.
2/6/14 – 121.9 hours Tractor Operation Problems and phone calls
The tractor was used for spreading and Loader work (snow removal) today.
There was no problem with the PTO today but once again it was only turned on once.
There was no noticeable problem with the power steering or the gurgling noise today and it was used basically in the same way, path and locations as yesterday???.
Using the loader today at approx. 2000 rpm, there were once again the usual problems and they happened in all 3 speeds, with no RP or N warnings on dash . Intermittently staying in forward after shifting to reverse, intermittent delays shifting from reverse to forward some times much longer than others. The problems seemed more frequent after running it a while. In one instance I was dumping snow over the edge of a steep banking had taken my foot off the pedal put it in reverse taken a phone call with my foot on the brake then went to continue and the tractor was still in forward even though the lever was in reverse it lurched forward before it shifted to reverse (thanks again for the good brakes).
I spoke to Nate again today he said he had spoken to his NH Rep Zach and they had discussed the on going problems with the tractor, the PTO problems, the transmission problems, not being able to see codes on dash or with the “Plug” and the power steering issue. The Rep had said to contact ASIST again for a phone contact and they had also discussed a loaner for when the tractor goes back to the dealer and the cost of transport because of the 3 to 4 hour distance we are located from the dealer.
I told Nate that I felt that it was bad cpu problems that were damaged by the bad ground we found at around 16 hours. He said he would contact me tomorrow after talking to John.
2/5/14 -117.6 hours Tractor Operation Problems and phone calls
The tractor was used for spreading and Loader work (snow removal) today.
There was no problem with the PTO today but once again it was only turned on once.
While using the loader today at 2000 rpm I tried using it with the foot pedal and cruise control in all three speeds. I had intermittent problems with it staying in forward for a few seconds after putting it in reverse and long delays (longer than 2 seconds) going from reverse to forward these problems happened with both the foot pedal and while in cruise control. They got more pronounced and frequent the longer it was used today. No “N” or “RP” showed on the dash while using loader. We’ll see tomorrow if they happen at the same frequency when the tractor is cold or only when it has been used a lot warmed up.
The power steering acted up today with the tractor warm once again at about 1500 rpm as I was leaving the lower barn after spreading and turning to the left. This hasn’t happened in a while. Also today when putting the tractor away the gurgling sound is back. I checked the hydraulic fill and there was no vacuum or pressure so vent is still working.
Talked to Nate this morning he said he had missed the return call from ASIST and it appeared that they had canceled the ASIST so he would resubmit it and let me know. He said the the written ASIST had asked if the “N” or “RP” had shown on dash when the problems had occurred I told him I wasn’t sure but I would watch for them. The ASIST also suggested checking a lot of items that had already been checked and others I couldn’t check here. I told him I didn’t want to spend another $700 in shipping charges and to be without a tractor another 2 weeks. I reminded him that out of the 3 months we have owned it it’s been back there a full month. Nor did I expect them to eat the shipping. That NH had to step up. I discussed with him my previous log entry in length. That I was concerned with the “Safety” issue and that someone could get hurt. I felt that Adam had been on the right track when he said it appeared the dash unit might be bad. I’m starting to believe one or both the dash and/or the transmission controllers were damaged from the ground problem at 15.8 hours. I told him I just wanted the tractor fixed or if necessary replaced. He said he would try to get the NH Rep involved, I told him to send a link to this log. He also said he would speak to John about the situation and get back to me when he knew something but he would be out of the shop most of the day. I asked that he get back to me later in the day. I did not hear from him.
2/4/14 – 113.2 hours Tractor Operation Problems emails and phone calls
The Tractor was used for spreading and loader work (Snow removal) again today.
There was no problem with the PTO today but once again it was only turned on once.
While using the loader moving snow I once again had a few delays while shifting from forward to reverse and reverse to forward, but his time I was using cruise control and not the foot pedal most of the time.
Emailed Nate I told him that I noticed something different happen last night while using the tractor to remove snow. Front wheels were continuing to turn in forward even though I had shifted into reverse for a while. Maybe this is something related to some of the other transmission issues. I also told him that while looking for the 800 number and email address in my Owners/Operators manual I stumbled on this page (attached) it says I should see error codes on the dash when I first start the tractor for approx. 5 sec until dealer removes them. I have not seen these appear even when the codes were still in there and I know there is at least 2 “5080” codes there now because of the cpu locking up in the rear field with the 5080 flash on the screen. The 5080 code is listed here also.
Tried calling Nate late in the day because I hadn’t heard from him yet, but he was gone for the day. I will try contacting him tomorrow.
I’m starting to be concerned that this is a “Safety” issue with the transmission sticking in forward and also locking up not moving either way. It has stuck in forward at least twice on me that I can definitely say it did. Once while leveling the top of the manure pile and almost going over the top (at least the brakes worked then) and last night while pushing snow and it didn’t shift out of forward right away. This happened in both occasions even though I had moved the shifter to reverse. It has stuck in a no go condition twice on me in the pit while using the loader (the last time the worst yet). If a less experienced operator was on it things might of turned out differently!
All these problems keep me thinking that it is a bad CPU/TCU problem for the transmission along with bad switch design for the PTO.
2/3/14 – 111.3 hours Tractor Operation emails and phone calls
The Tractor was used for spreading and loader work (Snow removal) today.
There was no trouble with the PTO but it was only engaged once for spreading today.
While using the loader for snow removal I had a few delays while shifting from forward to reverse and reverse to forward. One instance that I noticed where the wheels continued to go forward for a short time after shifting to reverse and then it shifted into reverse.
I spoke to Nate in the morning so he would know what happened yesterday with it not going into forward or reverse. I told him I had written it up here in the log.
I spoke to Nate late in the day to find out what had happened. He said no contact back from ASIST and that he had set my narrative along to ASIST. He said he hoped to hear from them tomorrow and would let me know.
I received two emails from Nate. One email was that he hadn’t heard anything back yet on the ASIST and the other had the document/service warranty order attached from the tractors first warranty service.
2/2/14 – 109.2 hours Tractor Operation/Problems
The tractor was used for a short time today for spreading and loader work pushing up the manure pit.
There were no problems spreading but the PTO was only turned on once.
While using the loader @ around 2000 rpm pushing up the manure pit the loader hydraulics stalled so I tried to backup to relieve pressure on the loader. It would not backup. I tried numerous times going from reverse to neutral to forward to neutral waiting and putting it back into reverse. It would not move nor would it spin the tires in either direction even when I increased the rpm’s to over 2500. I finally got it to back out by curling the bucket down and then at the same time curled it up while putting it in reverse it suddenly went into reverse and backed out. Then it appeared to stall in forward sometimes even at the high rpm setting 2500 rpm going into the pile, it would not spin the tires it would just die. Other times with the same conditions it would spin the tires. It almost feels like something is slipping internally. I have had this happen in the past but never to this extent.

The tractor was used only a short time today for spreading no problems but pto was only turned on once.
I spoke to Nate late in the day and he told me that he had not heard anything back on the ASIST. He sent in another as it had been two days and nothing back. He also said he was still working on the paperwork from the two times the tractor was there. He said he would let me know as soon as he heard anything on the ASIST.
Nate emailed me late in the day and told me he was sure it went in this time as he had a reply from NH that they had received it. He said he would let me know as soon as he heard something more.
1/30/14 – 107.4 hours Tractor Operation and Phone conversation
The tractor again was used only a short time today for spreading no problems but pto was only turned on once.
I received an email from Nate saying he had heard back from the NH rep and sent in another ASIST request to try and find out answers to my questions. He said he would contact me when he heard back. I did not hear any more from him today.
1/29/14 – 107.0 hours Tractor Operation and Email
The tractor once again was used only a short time today for spreading no problems but pto was only turned on once.
I spoke to Mike and told him about the snowflake on the dash when it had been real cold, so asked him to order the heater for the transmission. I also spoke to him about the other issues with the tractor.
I spoke to Nate told him that I was able to clear the code this time but that I was concerned that Adam wasn’t able to and that I couldn’t see the 5080 codes I know are there. I told him I was concerned that there might still be a problem with cpu. He said he was contacting NH to get a direct contact with someone about pto, code “Plug” etc. and would get back to me once he heard back either later today or tomorrow
1/28/14 – 106.5 hours Tractor Operation and Phone conversation
The tractor was used only a short time today for spreading no problems but pto was only turned on once.
I spoke to Nate and he said he hadn’t been able to talk to Adam yet about what we had talked about yesterday, but he would as soon as Adam returned and would call me back.
Nate called back and told me that the different software versions in the SF and ZB modes were ok as Adam had only updated the transmission software. Adam also said he had cleared all the codes and didn’t understand why there was still a code in it and he did not know why I couldn’t read the 5080 codes. He also told me he hadn’t been able to contact any one at NH yet in regards to doing something about the pto or info on the test “plug”, nor had been able to finish up the paperwork on the tractor yet. He said he would try and get it done tomorrow.
I asked him if I should try and clear the code and he told me to go ahead and try and to let him know tomorrow how I made out and hopefully he would have info for me by then.
I was able to clear the codes after clearing them in both the zb an sf modes.
1/27/14 – 105.9 hours Tractor Operation and phone conversation
Once again the tractor was used only a short time today for spreading no problems but pto was only turned on once.
Power steering and shifting showed no problems but the tractor was only used a very short time.
Spoke to Nate and told him of my findings from yesterday. (see above) The stored code from 88 hours (14901) (which I didn’t try clearing) even though Adam had cleared all the codes (this sounds familiar from before when I tried to clear codes), not being able to read the 5080 codes (that I know are there since it returned) with the test “Plug” even though the service manual says I should be able to, the different software version numbers in the ZB and SF modes, and NH telling me I didn’t know how to use a switch (what about bouncing across a field don’t they think that might cause some bad codes from the switch if touching it does). I asked once again if there was some way to power the PTO by bypassing the cpu so it would work with out all the fancy gadgets on the dash that I didn’t need.
I also asked about the Paperwork from the two times it was there again. He said he would have the paperwork and answers to my questions by the end of the day tomorrow.
1/26/14 – 105.5 hours Tractor operation and check
Used only a short time today for spreading no problems but pto was only turned on once.
Power steering and shifting showed no problems but the tractor was only used a short time.
Checked test “plug”. It does not let me see the 5080 codes in either the ZB or SF modes I know there should be a few already, but it did see code 14901 in the ZB mode at 88 hours. This would have been an early code when it got to the dealer as it showed 88 hours and the tractor left here at 87.2 hours returned at 91.2 hours. I did not try clearing it yet. Both Nate and Mike said that all codes had been cleared so either the code was not cleared before it left the dealer or more probably there is still a problem with the cpu not letting codes be cleared and causing other problems. I also checked the software version numbers and the SF ver is now 230 but the ZB ver is still 200.
I still believe there is something wrong with the cpu. Which is one of the things code 5080 talks about that may need to be replaced. If you read the service manual section 55.640 it talks about and gives explicit instructions on using the test “Plug” to access and change the programs to read and clear trouble codes. It goes into great detail on how to do this with the test “Plug”. It even has code 5080 listed as one of the codes it should see and be able to clear on page 55.640/20! (section 55.640/19-21) Following these instructions I can not see the 5080 code I know should be there! Nor in the past could I clear codes I could see. I will try clearing the one in there after speaking to Nate this week. One other thing I haven’t checked is if the pto speed registers on the dash still I will check it later today or tomorrow while spreading.
1/19/14 – 1/25/14 Phone calls
3 calls this week 2 on 1/20, 1 on 1/24
1/25/14 – 105.0 hours Tractor Operation
Tractor was used for spreading with no problems but pto was only engaged once.
Power steering once again stalled shortly while turning to the left leaving the lower barn this time the throttle was set at 1800 rpm.
No loader work was done
Did not get to check if the “plug” was working today maybe I’ll check it later tonight or tomorrow.
1/24/14 – 103.8 hours Phone conversations Tractor operation
Talked to Mike today asked him to check into online account as I do not have access to it, he said he would take care of it. I told him that the forward reverse was working much better but that sometimes I still would experience a delay in the shifting. I told him the power steering worked ok as long as I set the throttle at 1500 before moving it. I also told him I was still sometimes having problems with pto 5080 lockup. I understood that there was nothing more that they could do (“the Dealer”), but that I was unhappy with New Holland’s response to the problem. That basically the 5080 code was being caused by my improper use of the switch for the pto as referenced in the ASIST3. I don’t understand why the use of an on/off switch could sometimes cause the 5080 code and other times not, simple by not snapping it on and off quickly and not resting my hand on it!! It’s an on/off switch!! Sounds more like a bad switch design, poor quality switch or a switch system/program problem to me that could be rectified by a firmware/software change!! I said I couldn’t believe I was the only one having this problem especially since in the ASIST3 New Holland appeared to already know about the issue. I asked if there was any other recourse and he suggested the 800 number in the manual.
I spoke to Nate and asked about the paper work on what had been done on the tractor during it’s 2 returns for warranty work. He said he was working on them and would have them for me by next Tuesday the latest. I told him the same things as I had spoken to Mike about above and questioned if they had checked the programming “plug” after reprogramming the tractor. He said they hadn’t I told him I would check it tomorrow, as from what I had read in the service manual it should let me see all the codes and reset them.
Mike was able to get my online account straightened out.
The tractor was only used a short time today for spreading and I only had to turn on the pto once as it was a long run. So no problem occurred. This will probably be the daily occurrence for the pto operation for a while now as I’m working in a larger section of the field.
1/23/14 – 103.2 hours Tractor Problems
Tractor was used for snow removal with loader and snow blower today.
There was no problem with pto but it was on long periods of time with long periods between turning it on and off while using the snow blower.
There were a couple of delays in shifting from forward to reverse and reverse to forward while using the loader to move snow piles using the foot pedal but it does shift faster most of the time.
Power Steering was ok today the throttle was at least 1500 rpm while using it.
1/22/14 – 100.8 hours Tractor Problems
Not used for spreading today but was used with snowblower with no problems. The snow blower is engaged for longer periods and is off for longer periods than the spreader though.
Mostly loader work today moving snow. I had a couple of times when there was a delay going into forward.
Power steering worked ok as I kept rpm at 1500 or higher. No noticeable gurgling noise today.
No paper work from both times on warranty work yet.
1/21/14 – 97.7 hours Phone Conversations Tractor Problems
While spreading today I was able to turn the PTO on and off 3 times on the 4th try the cpu locked up with a 5080 code. I shut down and restarted waited at least 10 seconds at 1500 rpm then engaged the pto and it ran ok the rest of the time.
The power steering worked ok today running the throttle at 1500.
I did not use the tractor for loader work today but with the snow coming in there should be plenty of time for that.
I reinstalled the chains and hooked up the snowblower.
I spoke to Mike to get the part number for the microphone which I ordered. I also spoke to Nate and asked him to send me the paper work on what was done on the tractor both times it was there for warranty work. He said he would get it together and send it out today. Nate called me later in the day and said he didn’t finish it but would get it to me tomorrow. The access cover came via UPS and I reinstalled it.
1/20/14 – 00.0 hours Tractor Problems
I spread today with no problems turning the pto on and off 4 times.
I had one problem with the tractor going into forward while doing loader work.
I also tested the power steering again at 1500 rpm and it appears to work fine, I only get the stalling when the throttle was set at it’s lowest position both tests were pulling out of the lower barn after it warmed up again.
1/19/14 – 94.1 hours Tractor Problems
Spread today with no problems turning the PTO on 3 times.
I also tested power steering at 1500 rpm and it appears to work fine, I only got the stalling when the throttle was set at it’s lowest position both tests were pulling out of the lower barn after it warmed up.

Used tractor today just for spreading, PTO started first time ok but when I shut it off and restarted it at 2500 rpm it did a 5080 lockup. This happened after the PTO was off over 30 seconds as I went back and timed the same arc I had made. Is the vibration from traveling across the field causing the problem (vibrating the switch causing bad/false codes to the computer)?? When it was tested the 50 times, it was inside in the shop not moving, a controlled environment. I was able to restart the PTO again a 2nd and 3rd time after restarting the engine with a 20 second wait at 1500rpm before engaging the PTO with no further problems.
There was no power steering stall today as I left the rpm at around 1500 when I left the lower barn and no noticeable gurgling noise, but the tractor was only run a short time. I will try this both ways tomorrow to see if the stall happens again.
I did not do any loader work today because of heavy rain.
All the dash warnings appear to be working again so far, so the software upload must have fixed them.
1/17/14 – 91.2 hours Tractor Returned
Tractor Returned today around Noon, hopefully fixed, part delivery came with it but no paperwork from Nate.
1/17/14 – 93.0 hours Tractor problems
I used the tractor this afternoon for spreading and it locked up once on me when I turned it on for the 3rd time at 2500 rpm. I shut down and restarted the tractor, waited at least 10 sec at 1500 rpm before I restarted the PTO and then increased to 2500 rpm. It worked fine 4 more times with no further problems today. I will have to work on how I’m using the switch before contacting them again. Possibly because I’m bouncing around in the cab when I turn it on/off?
There was no vacuum or pressure on the transmission and I checked it multiple times today so that appears fixed.
The power steering stalled when I was leaving the lower barn after spreading. The hand throttle was set at the lowest idle speed and I accelerated using the foot pedal only, the steering stalled when I was accelerating and turning to the left leaving the barn. Since Adam checked the pressure on the pump and relief valve, maybe if I set the hand throttle so I have around 1500 rpm on the engine I might not have the problem anymore I’ll try that tomorrow. The gurgling noise is still there when it warms up.
Shifting forward reverse appears to be reacting quicker and appeared to be working fine except for one incident where it did not want to shift into forward. I had been going forward and back, back dragging in the pit using the foot pedal. One time when I shifted to forward it didn’t shift. The delay was long enough for me to recheck that the lever was in forward and then to step all the way to the floor with the pedal with still no reaction. Then with a jerking engagement it engaged. I also had an instance in the rear field where it appeared it wouldn’t come out of reverse right away when I was having problems with the PTO and had to backup to reset myself after the PTO did not turn on. I’ll try it again tomorrow.
1/16/13 Phone Conversations
I called and spoke to Dan early and ordered parts for 6640 and asked him to ship with tractor when it was returned. He told me he didn’t think it was going this morning. I spoke to Nate who had returned. He told me they were still testing and adjusting it and they were hoping it would be finished today shipping tomorrow morning. He told me to connect with him late in the day for an update. I told him about the parts shipment that was to come with tractor.
I contacted Nate late in day he said Adam had made some adjustments to reaction times with the shuttle and transmission and was now very comfortable with its operation. He said he had tested the power steering pump and relief valve and all was good. He said he had also checked for any other codes and that the software had uploaded ok. He said he was shipping tractor back first thing in morning.
I also spoke to Mike who helped me set up an online account with online invoices sent by email. I told him I thought his first gut feeling of a bad switch was correct only it was a badly designed switch system. I told him I would try to train myself on using the switch as he had so it would work for me and if it did lock to make sure I gave it the 10 sec wait after restarting before turning on the PTO. He said if I had problems with switch operation to call him.
1/15/14 Phone conversations
I didn’t hear from Mike so I called around 1:00 PM and Mike told me John was handling it today and had me speak to him. John told me he believed it would be ready to send back tomorrow morning and he would call when it was shipped.
I tried calling back after 5:00 to have parts sent along with it but could not connect with anyone.
1/14/14 Phone conversations
Talked to Mike in the morning. I asked him to check on NH Credit and that charges that didn’t qualify for 3 month or 6 month no interest to put those charges on my CC. I also told him that I thought it was unacceptable not to be able to use the PTO as I have used one for years, that there must be some work around for this.
I also asked if he could send me the copies of the ASIST1 so I could read them also. He said he was going to check into all the problems and get back to me later in the day and would send a copy of the assist so I could read it and better understand what was going on. Mike sent copy of the ASIST2 which I read several times (very confusing) I talked to him late in the day and he told me he was sending another copy of the ASIST3 (updated). He told me he was able to turn it off and on up to 50 times without an error. He told me as long as he didn’t rest his hand on the switch and quickly engaged it and removed his hand immediately and then slapped it to shut it down it worked every time. That as soon as he lifted up on the lock to let it shut off gently it would cause the 5080 lock up problem. I told him if all I needed was to train myself to use it this way then fine, I just wanted it to work with no problems. He also thought that one of the problems I was having was that after it locked I was not letting the tractor run for at least 10 sec before reengaging the PTO, in the rear field thus causing another lockup as referenced in the ASIST3.
He also told me they had changed the transmission vent to a long hose that went up inside the frame of the cab for dirt protection. They were planning on running the tractor tomorrow to make sure this cured the power steering problems and the forward reverse delay, as there should be no pressure or vacuum on the transmission at any time.
He was also going to have Adam recheck to make sure latest software update “took” when he uploaded it, that there were no new codes in memory and that all codes have been purged as of that time. If all is well they were planning on sending it back on Thursday or Friday. He said he would touch bases with me by the end of the day tomorrow.
1/13/14 Phone conversations
I called Nate around 1:00 pm to ask him what was happening with tractor. He said he would get right back to me with the info in about 15 minutes. I called back at 4:45 PM and talked to Nate about the tractor. He told me that they had found out that there was a 10 sec wait time built into the software for the PTO and that if you turned the PTO on off on in under 10 sec more than three times it will lock the computer and he believes it might hold the count in memory when you shut down the tractor at the end of the day so that the next time it is used it will lock when the count reaches 3. He told me they tried this with a brand new 3050 CVT in the yard and it did it every time. He said they would call and try to find some way around this. He told me he had tried the ”plug” and it appeared to be working ok just I could not clear the code that was there because it was one the factory didn’t want cleared by anyone but a dealer and the 5080 code was a nonvolatile code so only the computer plugged in would see it. He also told me the vent had been opened up and moved up and they would double check the power steering tomorrow. He said he would contact Mike from his class tomorrow and let him know what was going on. He would have him contact me sometime tomorrow with the final results. He figured he could ship it back to me Thursday or Friday depending on what the find out tomorrow ($350 each way).

1/10/14 phone conversations
I talked to Mike and sent him a copy of the transmission disconnect instructions I got from tractor by net. He said he would check into the transmission number on my tractor and send it to me.
I talked to Nate he said that Adam had started a new assist that he had to go through and it was pointing to the ECM in the dash unit. The testing he would finish up on Monday which is when he could order one. He said he had found and downloaded over 30 5080 codes and reset them. I reminded him that I was unable to see or reset these codes with the “test plug” and according to what I had read in the service manual I should have been able to. I asked if they had tried the “test plug” they had sent to me and Nate said they hadn’t yet but he would read up on it over the weekend and try it Monday. I told him it wasn’t working as the instructions said and this might be another clue as to the problems. I reminded him that I really needed it to work so I could read codes when they happen to pass them along to them to be able to repair it hopefully without shipping the tractor back up to them. Nate said to contact him on Monday. It looks like we won’t see the tractor until the end of next week now.
1/9/14 Phone Conversations
I called Nate late in the day. He said the parts had come in and Adam had replaced the solenoid, downloaded and cleared the codes, and had found a service bulletin that talked about needing 10 second rest in between turning the PTO on off on and that appeared to work. Only when he tried to operate the PTO on off on in less than 10 seconds did the tractor lock up with the 5080 trouble code. I told him that was unacceptable, sometimes while spreading the PTO was only off 2 seconds. He also said Adam had tried uploading different software versions to make it work with no luck. Nate said that Adam had been able to clear all the trouble codes in the tractor. I asked if the tractor was storing the 5080 code now and if they had tried the “plug” to access the codes via the dash. He said he didn’t know if it was storing codes but would ask and they hadn’t yet tried the “plug”. I told him my concern was the codes not being stored and the “plug” not working (to clear codes/change options) that something was wrong with the CPU or the software. Nate told me Adam was contacting their support for more help with the tractor and they will work on it again tomorrow and that they had a plug there and would try it.
I asked again about the paperwork on what was done from both times tractor was there for my records. He said he would get it together and either send it via email or with the tractor when it returned. I told him I would contact them late in the day tomorrow.
1/8/14 Phone conversation
I called Nate around Noon and he told me that they had just brought the tractor in and were starting to evaluate it. He said it had only been running about 10 minutes when they shut it off and they found the vacuum (hiss when opening the fill) in the transmission and said they would take care of that.
I talked to Nate late in the day. He said they had found a bad solenoid and had ordered it. When the solenoid comes in hopefully in the morning they could install it and be able to test further.
He also said they would be modifying the vent so it was open all the time.
I asked him for the paperwork on everything that had been done to the tractor both times it had been there for my records. He said he would get it together for me.
1/7/14 – 87.2 hours Phone Conversation Operation Problems
I talked to Nate this AM and told him I thought the problem with the loader float position was probably just me needing to learn the new loader. I also told him of the vacuum/pressure issue in the transmission.
He said truck was on the way to pick up the tractor and that maybe in the morning he would have a better idea what was wrong and how long it would take to fix it.
I also talked to Mike and discussed the problems with the tractor and my displeasure with them. I told him neither I nor they should be paying for the shipping or any of the repairs that it all should be covered by New Holland. I asked for the regional service reps name so I could speak to him directly. Mike told me I could write an email and send it to Nate who would forward it along. He also told me of an 800 number in the owner’s manual. I tried to impress upon both of them that I needed the tractor back ASAP as there was no Loaner. I also let him know I was thinking of getting rid of it and trading for something without the electronics that was more dependable.
I used the tractor for spreading and loader for pushing up the manure pit for only a short time again.
This time I had to turn PTO on and off and it locked up when I tried to turn it on causing the 5080 code again.
The longer I used it the louder the gurgling noise got and the power steering started to get real sluggish. When I returned to shop I checked the transmission fill and got the same hissing noise when I opened it I think it was caused by vacuum not pressure the way the cover came off. I emailed Mike this information today. Tractor was picked up around 11:30 AM.
1/6/14 – 86.8 hours Phone conversations Operation Problems
Spoke to Nate around 8:00 am and asked him about the plan. He said they were planning on coming to get it on Tuesday Morning and it would probably be gone until the following Monday or Tuesday. I asked him if he had checked if there was a TCU available and if there was a loaner available. I also let him know that I needed that size tractor to remove snow in paddocks. I told him about the problems with the loader float and that I didn’t know if it was new loader style or problem with float position in loader valve. He said he would check on both and get back to me by noon.
Nate got back to me around 12:30 pm and told me the TCU was available if needed and that he had to wait for Mike to come back to find out about loaner but he would get back to me by end of day.
I didn’t hear from Nate so called him on his cell phone at 5:15 pm. He apologized for not calling said it had been busy that he had spoken to Mike and John and no loaner tractor was available. He told me if it was something minor then maybe I would see the tractor back on Friday.
I used tractor for spreading and loader for pushing up manure pit for only a short time.
There was no issue with PTO today but I only turned it on once.
The gurgling noise and power steering stalling was bad as I pulled into shop so after shutting down I checked the transmission fill again and once again I got the hissing noise this time I think it was caused by vacuum. I restarted in the shop and it appeared the gurgling noise was reduced. This power steering problem appears to be getting worse the more hours I put on tractor. I also tested the float on the loader it appears ok so the problem I have had with loader in float must be caused with the different design of loader.
1/5/14 – ??.? Hours Operation Problems
Only used tractor a short time today for spreading. PTO had a delay in starting and locked the CPU with a code 5080 the one time I had to shut down and restart the PTO during spreading causing me to once again shut down the tractor and restart.
The Power steering was sluggish today but no stalling and there was no noticeable gurgling but I did not run it a long time, so I could not try opening the transmission fill to see if it made a difference again.

1/4/14 – 85.3 hours Operation Problems
Once again PTO worked ok but there was long periods between when it was turned on and off while using snow blower and loader. The power steering acted up and it got worse the longer I ran the tractor (mostly loader work today) the gurgling noise, the stalling of the steering (the Worse yet) and the delayed forward/reverse shifting sometimes in excess of 5 seconds. This time at the end of the day when the gurgling was the loudest I shut off the tractor and opened the transmission fill there was a loud hiss. I don’t know if it was from pressure or vacuum. I restarted the tractor and the gurgling was gone. I wonder if the new vent I installed is not working properly?

I called “The Dealer” around 5:00 PM as Nate had not called me and there was no answer they appeared to be closed for weekend. I called Mike who answered his phone and asked if he knew what was going on. He said that they were trying to plan on coming around the weather. He said that it could take up to a week to get it straightened out once it got there but at least three days and that I should call Nate’s cell phone and leave a message that I had called. He also asked if the new vent had taken care of power steering and I told him the noise and steering stalling seemed to get worse the longer I used the machine along with the delayed shifting. The float position appears to not work all the time with the loader. I plan on checking it closer after I get caught up with snow removal and before it goes back to dealer for other work.
1/2/14 – 73.9 hours PTO operation problem
PTO started fine and allowed me to turn it on and off 3 times before locking up with a code 5080. I restarted tractor and then there was no further problem while spreading. Power steering stalled momentarily when I was leaving lower barn. We chained up and hooked up snow blower for incoming snow storm. While testing snow blower PTO locked up after turning it on off on. Hopefully it will work alright during storm.
1/1/14 – 73.1 hours PTO Operation problem
PTO started with slight delay than CPU locked with a code 5080 after shutting PTO off then on it did this 4 times had to shut tractor down and restart to allow it to work again. Intermittent still one day it works fine others this problem. I have not found anything that would cause the intermittent problem yet.
Power steering stalled again today as I was leaving lower barn after spreading rpm was set at 1500.
12/31/13 – 72.0 hours PTO Operation Phone conversation
PTO worked ok today with only a slight delay in starting the first time. It was turned on and off 5 times with no problem???
Power steering noise returned for a short time after dropping off spreader at lower barn. I checked dip stick to see if there was pressure on transmission and found none so vent must be working, transmission Hydraulic fluid was at proper level.
I spoke to Nate around noon and told him I had just pulled the tractor inside to warm up to start checking grounds. He instructed that I pull the main fuse before starting to work on the grounds or checking the bulkhead connectors and said he would email me a picture of it. I asked if he had found anything out yet about the version numbers and he said not yet but was going to check tractor in yard to see if we were using correct steps to get it. He said he had spoken to rep and there were no reports of bad switches. I updated him on how the tractor was doing and of the problems with the dash, tachometer, RP and Emergency brake warnings I had forgotten in the past to tell him about. I reminded him of the loose ground on the battery when I first got the tractor and how I knew bad grounds could cook CPU’s in cars and trucks. He agreed with me. He asked about the log and if he could have a copy and I told him as soon as I updated today I would send him a copy. I also told him that it was entered daily starting when the hydraulic pump let go and the transmission release problem. Before that was from memory, invoices, written notes, phone records etc. Cleaned 3 of the grounds one on frame, 1 on firewall/ and 1 on starter. Need to remove wheel for ones on transmission and could not find one in cab. Called Nate and he told me the plan was to come and get it next week and try and get it straightened out that he would call Me Friday afternoon to discuss when they would come so there was no sense in me going further.
12/30/13 – 71.1 hours Phone Conversations
I called Nate this Morning and gave him a report on what I had tried and what had happened. I told him about the trouble code that only showed up on the screen for about 2 seconds and was not stored in the machine. I also told him about the loose ground when I first received the machine. I reminded him about all the transmission problems I was having along with the PTO problems and now no codes being stored and not being able to clear early codes or change options. This sounded like a bad CPU/TCU or damaged operating system that need to be reloaded. He emailed me updated info on code 5080 for me to check out. I told him that I probably would not have time to get to it today but would tomorrow. He also asked me for the CPU/TCU version # which I told him Mike had and then got for him both version #s from the tractor, but they didn’t match up to anything so he was going to check into it and get back to me later today. I suggested to him that this was getting real old and that maybe they should send down a Tec with a computer to plug in with the latest software update, a TCU, and a flatbed. That way if he could fix it, it was only one trip and if he couldn’t he could take it back to the dealership when he went back.
I called Mike and told him what was going on also and he said he would give Nate the version number I had got for him earlier. I asked him some questions on the other tractor on how large it was to maybe get rid of this one. He said he was going to speak to John.
Did not hear from Nate so I called around 5:00 pm he said he had found nothing out yet but would keep on digging and get back to me in the morning. I told him my plan for tomorrow was to start checking the connections and grounds and would let him know what I found.
The tractor when using it today took a while for the PTO to start. But then it operated and after turning it off and on the CPU locked up doing this cycle 4 times (What a pain).
The Dash board took a while to come up on one of these restarts and when it came up the tack didn’t start working for about 10 seconds after the dash finally came up. The RP warning does not work all the time and neither does the brake warning. These might be another indication of a CPU/TCU problem.
12/29/13 – ??.? hours PTO operation
PTO ran with no problems today while spreading only slight delay when I first turned on PTO.
12/22/13-12/28/13 Phone calls

12/28/13 – 69.3 hours code 5080 PTO Switch test
Tried PTO switches again this morning before switching out switch with test switch. The one on bench still tested no continuity in the off position so I cut off the connector and made up a DPDT toggle switch to test the system as discussed last night with Nate. The test switch tested ok. I then tested the bad switch again and it now shows continuity in the off position and the on position??? Must work intermittently? I started the tractor and used the PTO switch that was still in it to test it. This time it would not go into PTO the first couple of times I tried to engage it, then it finally engaged. I let it run for a while and then shut the PTO off for approx. 1 minute then turned it on and instantly got the warning light CPU lockup and a warning code that flashed on the dash for about 2 seconds “5080” (5080-PTO Clutch Solenoid Excessive Voltage) which I never saw before possibly because of the short time it was there. I checked the trouble codes in the machine and found only the one from 18 hrs. the transmission one that I thought I had cleared. I also checked the switch with the internal switch test software and I only get code 45(the on code) in either off or on. I also noticed one of the options Mike had told me to change to Live from ECR had returned on its own to ECR. I connected the test switch and the first 2 or 3 times I used it the PTO would not turn on. It did finally turn on and ran ok on and off. I used the internal software to test the test switch and once again got only code 45 in both the on and off positions and I did get correct codes on all the other switches. I reconnected the factory PTO switch for spreading today (as I was getting the same results with the test switch) and when I first tried to engage the PTO nothing happened. But after a few tries I got it to engage and run. I was able to shut it off and on 4 times with no further problems. The continuity on this switch tested ok in both the on and off positions when it was disconnected. When I returned to the shop I tried it again this time with camera ready. The first 4 times the PTO would not even start, then on the fifth try it started and ran ok for about one minute when I shut it down waited about a minute and tried to restart that is when the CPU locked up again and I got this picture. Could the bad ground at the battery when we first got the tractor have damaged the CPU as a bad CPU (TCU) is what it is starting to look like with no 5080 trouble codes stored and not letting me clear old trouble codes or change option settings, not allowing PTO to start, intermittent forward reverse problems etc.
12/27/13 – 67.6 hours Phone conversation
I talked directly to “The Dealer” Service Manager Nate this morning and told him what was going on with switch problem and the other problems (damage to roof when it was there for trans repair, power steering problems, damage to remote linkage and missing bolts when it was there for trans repair etc.). I explained to him I was at end of my rope with this “Lemon” That maybe I should get rid of it now! I needed a tractor that would work when I needed it daily!! That I needed service that would call back when they said they would! That I had gotten a hold of Mike last night and he recommended calling him or John this morning. I told Nate this was the third switch and it was acting bad. I told him I used the internal software and it tested bad. I suggested replacing the plastic switch with a good one from Cole Hersey or similar. I asked if I could cut the plug off the switch that bench tested bad that I still had and try a SPDP “On On” switch so we would know for sure. I wanted to make sure if I did this it wouldn’t affect the warranty. I also said that I couldn’t be the only one with this problem! Three switches in a row??? He said he would make some calls and get back to me before noon today with hopefully some solution.
Nate got back to me around 12:30 pm and said that he had not heard back from the NH Rep yet, that he would keep trying and would get back to me before the end of the day. I hadn’t heard from him by 5:00 PM so I called Him. He said still no contact from NH Rep and he now had an “out of office message until Jan 2” from him. I told him that this had been going on since I first purchased the tractor and another week of using it like this without trying something to fix it was not acceptable. I reminded him it is used daily with the PTO and each time the PTO could be turned on and off multiple times which means the tractor would have to be restarted multiple times. He said he had other avenues he could use first thing Monday morning. I asked if I could at least use the plug from the bad switch to test the system with a SPDT “on on” switch that way we would know for sure if it was the switch or not. He talked to Adam the shop Mechanic and they decided to have me go ahead with it. He said it would not affect the warranty nor the return of the bad switch, but reminded me of the safety issues doing this with a toggle switch. I told him I would make up the test switch in the morning so we would have 2 days of using it and report to him Monday morning of the results.
12/26/13 – 67.3 hours PTO Problem
Called “The Dealer” (Mike) in Morning and reported that new switch did not work. I told him of my test and that I thought the switch was bad. I asked if I could cut the plug off the switch and attach it to a single pole double throw switch (ON/ON switch) to verify the switch problem. He said he would speak to service and have them get back to me later in the day.
I spread manure and had same problem today it worked when I first turned it on but when I shut PTO off and then restarted it it locked tractor CPU and only worked again after turning off tractor and restarting. (See Picture)
Service never got back to me today so I called Mike on his cell phone he gave me Nate’s (Service Manager) cell phone number told me I should speak to him directly as that might get things moving. He also gave me John’s cell phone number in case that didn’t work. I told him as it was 6:00 pm I would wait until Morning to call anyone else as nothing could be done now.
12/25/13 – 66.0 hours PTO Switch install
Installed PTO switch and right rear red lens that was broken not sure where or when it was broken. PTO switch tested out ok when I installed it. While spreading manure it’s still not working right. It turned on first time then locked the tractor cpu up when I tried to shut off and restart the PTO, so I had to shut the tractor down to restart the PTO. Had to do this 4 times in a row. Then it would just not turn the PTO on at all no indicator on dash no PTO . Then it started working again intermittently turning on and not turning on when I cycled the switch. Back in shop I tested the switch again. Now it shows code 44 or 45 while in the on position sometimes and 44 or 45 in the off position sometimes but not consistently. Sometimes it works as it’s supposed to 44 in the off and 45 in the on.
Power steering and transmission seemed ok today but no real loader work was done today.
12/24/13 – 64.8 hours PTO Problem
PTO only acted up once today after spreading (see Picture) Transmission appeared to work alright. PTO switch arrived late in day I’ll install in AM before using Tractor.
12/23/13 – 64.3 hours PTO Problem
PTO still acting up Called Mike at “The Dealer” to make sure switch was ordered left message on his phone. He returned call left message on mine that they had ordered it at 8 am but not sure if I would get it because of holiday.
12/22/13 – 63.4 hours PTO Problem
PTO still acting up much worse now sometimes it takes longer than 10 seconds to engage even though the indicator light on the dash says it’s on.
12/15/13-12/21/13 Phone Calls
22 Calls during week (3 on 12/16, 2 on 12/17, 6 on 12/18, 4 on 12/19, 7 on 12/20)
12/20/13 – 62.3 hours PTO switch
PTO switch worked initially okay and on the second run it locked up as it has in the past causing the yellow warning light on the dash to come on and the only way to reset it so I could use it again was a shut tractor down and restart the tractor. It is doing this intermittently again sometimes it works fine sometimes acts up like this, worst-case was four times in a row I had a shut down and restart. I tested the switch and the switch is now acting up, with the onboard software sometimes the switch throws codes of 44 and 45 in the on position sometimes it throws codes of 44 and 45 in the off position sometimes just touching the top of the switch in the off position gives a code 45.
I also had a problem with the shuttle shift when going into the manure pile the tractor bogged down so I shifted into reverse it would not move then shifted forward would not move shifted reverse would not move then finally shifting forward the transmission finally engaged. I was able than to put in reverse and backup. I am also still having intermittent problems when shifting reverse to forward there is sometimes a large delay much more than two seconds and on occasions the problem still happens going from forward to reverse.
I also still am having problems with the power steering pump noise and power steering stalling intermittently.
I notified “The Dealer” (Mike) of these problems that were still going on. He told me that we needed to step it up a notch and turn it over to service he had me call back on the landline and had me connected to service manager Nate.
I explained to Nate what was going on and was now wondering if I might have a main tractor computer problem that was the basis of all problems. I told him I was getting to the end of my rope spending over $50,000 and having all these headaches. He said he would converse with Mike, Adam his top mechanic and John the owner and get back to me by the end of the day on what they would do so I wouldn’t have to wait the week end to know what they planned on doing.
I waited until 5:30 PM and not hearing from him I tried calling the dealership but they were closed I called Mike’s cell phone which he answered and I explained to him what was going on. He said he would contact Nate directly to have him get back to me within 15 minutes.
Nate contacted me and said he would order a switch on Monday and hopefully it would be delivered Tuesday. Hopefully that will take care of the PTO problem if not we would go from there.
12/19/13 – 60.7 hours PTO switch
I removed the old PTO switch and transmission vent, installed the new ones that we received this morning. Found a missing bolt in the rear remote bracket which I replaced and the PTO electrical cable was wrapped around some of the linkage. “The Dealer” (Mike) was I tested PTO switch with the onboard software and it tested okay.
12/18/13 – 58.1 hours PTO check
“The Dealer” (Mike) instructions I tested the PTO switch it showed 45 in both open and closed positions. Hopefully this will fix the PTO problem of locking up after turning on and off spreading than the yellow warning light comes on the dash with the only way to reset it is to turn the tractor on and off. “The Dealer” (Mike) said switch and vent ordered.
12/17/13 – 57.1 hours transmission vent
“The Dealer” (Mike) said he had read a service bulletin that the transmission vent could be causing the power steering noises and the power steering stalling. His instructions were to remove and check the vent. I removed the Left rear tire and removed the vent it was stuck closed internally. I was able to temporarily free it up and reinstall it. “The Dealer” (Mike) said they would ship me a new one
.

Changed engine oil, engine oil filter, outer air filter, fuel filter, greased and checked all fluids. 12/8/13 – 21.2 hours rear remote linkage problem
removed right rear tire and fixed linkage for third remote that must’ve been damaged (it was bent as I could not adjust it) while transmission repairs were underway. Had to cut adjusting rod for third remote as it was binding on pin. I was charged $28.43 for the pin??? This should have been under warranty! “The Dealer” (Mike) notified of this. He said he would take care of charge.
11/26/13 – 12/8/13 phone conversations
I talked to “The Dealer” (Mike) (Adam) about the damage to the tractor roof while transmission was being repaired probably caused by a lifting harness (See attached picture), the problems with the PTO, the problems with the transmission delay when shifting forward and reverse, the problems of the power steering pump noise, the problems with the power steering stalling and the Problem with the rear remote linkage jamming/sticking causing a pin to keep coming out of a clevis. Mike ordered the pin for me as the right rear tire will have to be removed to fix it and I will need help for that.

11/25/13 – 19.0 hours returned greased
The seat was banging against rear window (I adjusted). The PTO shutting off and locking tractor computer after turning PTO off and trying to turn on again. Only way to restart PTO is to shut tractor down and restart. The RP warning does not work all the time and neither does the brake warning. “The Dealer” (Mike) notified of this. Greased tractor and check all fluids. Tractor was also down 1 gallon of hydraulic oil upon its return which I topped off. He told me that they checked all the records/books and that I had done exactly as the instructions said both in the owner’s manual and in the service manual to disengage transmission and that when they ordered the replacement parts that had been broken or fallen out that the parts that came in matched the parts in the service manual and the operators manual instructions.
11/12/13 – 11/25/13 Phone conversations
I talked to “The Dealer” (Mike) (Nate) (John) Numerous times about the progress of repairs the tractor.
Mike said on different occasions that he believes the damage to the tractor transmission release mechanism was due to the wrong instructions being in the owner’s manual and service manual with no safety stop on the outside for the release bolt. When they ordered the new parts, the parts that came in matched the parts in the pictures in both the service manual the owner’s manual in the parts manual and they were different than the parts that were damage that they took out.
I also talked to Nate numerous times about the progress of the tractor when it would be back and how far apart it was taken. So I would know which bolts that I would have to worry about in the future loosening up.
I spoke to John “The Dealer” in regards to the shipping charges told him I was unhappy that I had to pay any and he offered to pay half the shipping charges which I agreed to even though I felt that New Holland should be paying these because of how they sent the tractor out.
